Be Aware of Deer This Time of Year

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is warning residents to be aware of deer while driving. It is deer mating season, which means deer become more active, mainly at dawn and dusk through December. Last year, there were more than 14-thousand crashes involving deer in Illinois. Cook County had the most deer related crashes in 2022 with 542.

According to information from IDNR released earlier this week Wayne County at 114 car-deer collisions this year, down from 125 last year. Hamilton County reported 52 last year and 51 deer vehicle crashes in 2021. Edwards County recorded 14 crashes involving deer in 2021 and 12 last year. Wabash County reported 40 in 2022 and 38 in 2021.103 deer-vehicle collisions occured in White County last year, up from the 84 reported in 2021.
