West Salem Village Board Recap from 10/24

The West Salem Village Board met for their monthly session on Tuesday.

In the Village Board President’s comments, Mayor Jeffrey Bradham thanked West Salem First Christian Church for sponsoring the annual Fall Fun Fest on the Square on Saturday; October 21st. Mayor Bradham introduced Officer Hunter Michl, who was appointed at the September meeting. His waiver has been approved by the Illinois State Police, and he is now patrolling the West Salem. A new computer was installed in the Police Department; and two new computer monitors were installed in West Salem Village Hall.

During the meeting, the board approved the Appointment of Officer Mark Weber as the new West Salem Chief of Police. The West Salem Police Department is now fully staffed. Approval was given to Stennett Construction, Inc. to replace the Police and Fire department entrance doors at a cost of $2,044.00 as well as a Police Department window at a cost of $300.00. The board approved  Alan Hickox to rekey various doors in Village Hall and the Police Department for a cost not to exceed $400.00.

In other business, the board approved an Intergovernmental Agreement for Participation in the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System.  The board approved a resolution for the West Salem Grade School Volleyball Team Supper Fundraiser to be held on Friday, December 8, 2023 at the West Salem Fire Station. Finally, the board approved the purchase of up to $500.00 for electrical supplies needed for the West Salem Christmas Tree Lighting event. The event is scheduled for Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 5:00pm.

Discussion regarding the Annual Levy Ordinance. Due to inflation, the Board is anticipating a slight increase in next year’s levy request will be necessary. The Village’s levy request will be approved at the November Board meeting.
