By Tony Collins Dec 5, 2023 | 6:25 AM

The Albion City Council met in regular session Monday night.

The council under their old business heard from Christa of Kemper CPA who reported on the city audit. The firm found no irregularities and reported all funds with a positive balance except the garbage fund which is in the red $355. That is a great improvement over past years. As of April, the city had $1.8 million on hand.

The council voted down the ordinance to install stop signs for east-to-west traffic on Elm Street. The vote was 3 to 2 against the project. The center yellow line on the new street however, will stay since motor fuel tax money was used from the state for that street improvement.

More discussion about the city hall roof, there has been a proposal to replace the leaky roof with new decking and to return to a single roof. The current roof is leaking on the ambulance side of the building. The council approved advertising for bids for a new roof for the entire building.

The council approved the tax levy for the 23-24 year. The total amount of levy was $459,240.

Mayor Harris told the council that animal control officer Pam Carter retired last month. The council will advertise for a city worker to work part-time as an animal control officer and part-time as a city worker. The starting pay will be $18 per hour. Applicants can pick up an application at City Hall and must have them turned in by January 22nd of 2024.

Alderwoman Morgan Bailey presented a citywide website communications package to the council. The total per year would be $3795 with a start-up charge of $850 for some discussion about that possible website and more information will be obtained about the possible website.

The council voted to purchase a laptop computer for the current city TV channel which will be operational soon. The council approved Christmas Bonuses for city workers. The bonus for outdoor workers, including police is $250 per year and inside workers. $150. Christmas bonuses will remain the same as last year. $300 for full-time workers and part-time workers. $150 with $75 worth of chamber bucks for each employee.
