Illinois Lawmakers Hear Arguments For One Thousand-Dollar A-Month Guaranteed Income

Lawmakers in Springfield have begun debating the latest plan to pay some people in Illinois a guaranteed income. Legislation would create a one thousand-dollar per-month guaranteed income program. The money would go to anyone, even those people who are in Illinois illegally. Advocates say the money is necessary because of inflation. Critics say guaranteed income programs in the past have helped people buy new things, but have never helped anyone out of poverty.
