The Illinois Department of Agriculture has introduced new testing requirements for lactating dairy cattle taking part in livestock exhibitions across the state. This initiative aims to reduce the spread of avian influenza among dairy herds in Illinois.

Although there have been no reported cases of H5N1 in Illinois’ dairy cattle so far, twelve other states have confirmed cases. The testing mandate applies to lactating dairy cattle that are exhibited at county fairs, the Illinois State Fair, the Du Quoin State Fair, and any other livestock shows held within the state.

For further information and more detailed guidelines on these testing requirements, you can visit the website of the State Ag Department.
