MLB NEWS:

ORLANDO CEPEDA DIES AT AGE 86

Hall of Fame baseball player, Orlando Cepeda, has passed away. He was 86. Affectionately referred to as “Cha Cha,” Cepeda was a fan favorite and helped to lead the St Louis Cardinals to the World Series Championship in 1967, and he was also named the MVP of the League that year with 111 RBI’s, 25 home runs, and 37 doubles all while batting .325 for the season.
Although he only played three of his seventeen seasons in St Louis, Cepeda was a major cog for the Cardinals who were also loaded with the likes of Brock, Gibson, Carlton, Flood, Maris, McCarver, Shannon, Javier, Tolan, and others. Many Cardinal fans believe that the 1967 St Louis team was the best team ever assembled in the gateway city. He was an 11-time All Star who was an inspiration to Hispanic players, many of whom followed him into Major League Baseball success.   During his three seasons in St Louis, Cepeda averaged 20 home runs, 80 RBI’s, and 30 doubles.
