The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory in effect until 8pm tonight (Monday) for all of Southern Illinois.
Officials warn that heat-related illnesses are more common during advisories. This round of heat is expected to bring heat index temperatures up to 105.
Medical professionals urge residents in high heat areas to drink extra water, wear looser clothing, stay in air-conditioned areas as much as possible, avoid the sun for long periods of time and to seek medical attention at the first signs of heat stroke.
Officials remind everyone those with outdoor work should complete it in the early morning or late evening hours.
