Proposed Illinois Bill Would Make It Easier For People To Apply For Rental Properties

By Mark Wells Jul 5, 2024 | 5:53 AM

A bill awaiting approval in Illinois aims to simplify the apartment rental application process. If passed, tenants could use a reusable screening report with key details like income and credit history when applying for properties, eliminating the need for application fees for 30 days. Landlords would access this information through a third-party service for free. This change would benefit tenants worried about credit score impacts from multiple inquiries and streamline the application process, making it less burdensome and costly. It’s a step towards a more efficient and fair rental application system.  The bill is on the Governor’s desk awaiting his signature.
