Wayne County 4H Livestock Auction Set For Thursday, July 11th

By Mark Wells Jul 8, 2024 | 12:00 PM

Wayne County 4-H members will be offering their animals up for auction at the annual 4-H Livestock Auction, Thursday, July 11. Individuals and businesses are invited to support the youth with livestock projects by bidding on the animals at the auction, which will be held at the 4-H barn on the Wayne County Fairgrounds, at 5:30 p.m.

4-H members will be offering market heifers or steers, lambs, barrows, goats, rabbits, and chickens. These will be their 4-H livestock projects that have been exhibited earlier in the week at the fair.

Bidding will be on a dollar per head basis, with bidding starting at $0 and going up. The buyer may choose to keep the animal, but must pay the selling bid, plus the market price of the animal.

There are no ceiling limits on the animals. And, a 20% fee per animal will go to the Wayne County 4-H Foundation to be used to support the 4-H Program in Wayne County. These funds are used to help with upkeep of the 4-H area at the fairgrounds, support the local Extension Office budget, and offer scholarships to 4-H members who attend 4-H events beyond the county and graduating members.

Barkley and Mark Barnard will be conducting the auction, with assistance from Rob Neikirk and 4-H Foundation members.

Attendance and bidding from community businesses and individuals is greatly appreciated.
