The U.S. Geological Survey says the southern Illinois and southeast Missouri region has recorded several earthquakes in the past several days, although none have been strong enough to cause any damage or be felt by most people.

Reports said six earthquakes have shook the region in the past week or so.  The quake closest to our area was in eastern Hamilton County on Saturday, August 10th.  A magnitude 2.4 quake was recorded at a depth of 6.4 miles.

The other earthquakes have been recorded in Missouri and Tennessee, ranging from a magnitude of 1.2 to 2.3.  The most recent quake was recorded in Pemiscot County, Missouri Friday morning.
