The Fairfield City Council met last (Tuesday) night at City Hall with a light agenda. The council approved the minutes from the previous meeting and the payment of bills. They then addressed several agenda items, including updating the municipal code book, rezoning a property from R1 to B1 for a new dance studio on Leininger Road just East of the Fairfield Police Department.  Mayor Gary Moore says the studio being constructed is under roof and moving along nicely with the natural gas company trenching in the gas line.  The council approved a street closing request for a portion of Leroy Avenue for a Pickleball Tournament on September 21st and 22nd in conjunction with the Fairfield Fall Fun Fest.  A Business Tax Agreement was approved by the council with Bare’s Flooring LLC.  Alderman Cody Atteberry, who is the chairman of the tax district committee says the owner of Bare’s Flooring approached him with a request for financial assistance to help with sewer line repairs that needed done.  Atteberry says water was getting into the building and $6,000 was approved from the new projects program to help them with the cost.

Mayor Moore updated the council on some demolition of property.  The Mayor recently met with officials from Lewis Scrap Yard in Bt. Prairie and took them through a tour of the old power plant and their thoughts on scrapping the property.  Moore says officials will be discussing the idea internally and then come back to the Mayor with a recommendation or an offer.  Mayor Moore says he has been approached by a company in Northern Illinois who has generators that are exactly the same type as what the old power plant has and they are interested in coming to Fairfield and taking a look at the generators for parts to help them if they have problems with their generators.
