Mark Curtis, the current Coroner of Edwards County, is facing competition in the upcoming General Election this November. Curtis, who is seeking his 12th term, holds the distinction of being Illinois’ longest-serving coroner.
Challenging him is Amanda Thompson of Albion, an Independent candidate who works as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department at Wabash General Hospital in Mount Carmel. A native of Ellery, Thompson also serves as the Infection Control Nurse at the same hospital.
Curtis began his tenure in 1980, succeeding Phil Gubbins, and made history as the youngest coroner in Illinois at just 20 years old. Now in his 44th year of service, he expresses gratitude for the trust the residents of Edwards County have placed in him. If re-elected in November, he looks forward to continuing his work for several more years.
