Anson Fenton, the Chief of the Wayne City Police Department, formally submitted his resignation on Tuesday morning following months of public criticism during village board meetings.
Village Clerk Stacie Choate confirmed the resignation in notifications sent to village board trustees.
In June, the police chief faced public rebuke from trustees regarding what some members perceived as a conflict of interest related to the transfer of property to him. While allegations suggest that Chief Fenton may have improperly benefited from a forfeited truck, this is not the only concern surrounding his tenure.
The board is expected to address the police chief’s resignation at their next meeting, which is set for 7 p.m. on October 7th.
