86-year-old Dahlgren resident, Jasper C. Goin, Jr. died Wednesday, March 16. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served at Scott Air Force Base as an analyst and report writer for the base commander. At the age of 23, he organized Little Egypt Christian Youth Camp and served as the director and teacher in the camp for 57 years.
He served on the Hamilton County Unit 10 school board, was on the original steering committee of Rend Lake College, served on the Dahlgren Village Board for 56 years and served as mayor of Dahlgren. He also worked 30 years as a Rural Letter Carrier. He attended David Lipscomb Christian College and transferred to the University of Illinois graduating with a degree in Business Management and Marketing.
Survivors include his wife, Gela, a son, Jasper David Goin and his wife Melissa. He is also survived by 3 granddaughters, Kaitlyn Marie, Emily Nicole and Lauren Danielle Goin. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Jasper C. Goin, Jr. will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 22 at the Harre Funeral Home in Dahlgren with burial at the Dahlgren I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 – 8 Monday evening, March 21 at the Harre Funeral Home in Dahlgren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Little Egypt Christian Youth Camp or the Belle Rive Church of Christ Monday School program and will be accepted at the Harre Funeral Home in Dahlgren.
