Richard D. Hampsten, 95, of Grayville, Illinois, died Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Meadowood Nursing Home in Grayville. Richard was a member of the Church of Christ, VFW and American Legion. He was a World War II Army veteran and participated in the Normandy invasion. He loved his work in the oilfields of the Illinois Basin, and when not working, he enjoyed animals, plants and working in his yard.
Survivors include son Charles R. Hampsten; daughters Chris (Charlie) Brines, Gloria (Mike) Garner, all of Grayville; grandchildren Tina (Kelly) Rickert, Christine (Derek) Wissel, Jacqueline (Cody) Kunce, Daniel (Cathleen) Garner, Darrin Hampsten, Brian (Linda) Hampsten, Bridget (John) Woodall; great grandchildren Elizabeth, Darian, Tanner, Felicia, Jillian, Derek, Tyler; great great grandchildren Ellie, Gracie, Logan and Parker.
Visitation is 6-8 pm, Monday, July 17, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Grayville.
Funeral is 10 am, Tuesday, July 18, at Cook Funeral Chapel with burial with military rites in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville.
