72-year-old McLeansboro resident, John Richard Knight died at 2:10 a.m. Monday, July 31 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was awarded a Silver Star and Purple Heart. He worked as an electrician.
Survivors include a son, Brian Daniel Knight of Las Cruces, New Mexico; a daughter, Jennifer Knight of McLeansboro; two sisters, Judith Kay Hall of McLeansboro and Deanna Barnes of Odessa, Texas; his fiancé Tonja Cruse of McLeansboro and four grandchildren, Justin Robert Kidder, Jarrett Allen Kidder, McLean Buchanan Knight and Morgan Kathryn Knight plus several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for John Richard Knight will be 12 noon until 1 p.m. Sunday, August 6 at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
A burial of ashes and graveside memorial service will be held at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at 1:15 p.m. Sunday with military rites provided by the American Legion Post 106 and a Military Honor Team from Marion.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation and will be accepted at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro.
