Opal D. Owen – Broughton

98 year-old Opal D. Owen, a resident of Broughton, died Thursday, September 27 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital.

She was born February 20, 1920 in Karbers Ridge, IL to Edward Clarence and Cathlene Hannah (James) Tanner.  Opal married Perley Glen Owen on July 5, 1938 in Morganfield, Ky and he preceded her in death.  A home maker, Opal was a member of the former Broughton Baptist Church and a member of the Eastern Star.
Opal is survived by one son, Joseph Glen (Vicki) Owen of Mt. Vernon, IL; three daughters, Geraldine (Robert) Barker of Broughton, IL, Leona Reed of Indianapolis, IN and Virgie Ledford of Shorewood, IL; one sister, Golda L. Parnell of California.  Ten grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and one sister.
A graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 2 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hickory Hill Cemetery near Broughton with Rev. Robert Sefried officiating.  Those attending the service are asked to meet at the cemetery.
