Lula Faye Allen – McLeansboro

96-year-old McLeansboro resident Lula Faye Allen died at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday (April 24) at McLeansboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. She was a homemaker.

Faye Allen was born on May 29, 1922 in Dale to parents Moses and Julia (Wheeler) Mayberry. She married Frank Allen on November 23rd, 1946, and he preceded her in death on October 8th, 1995.

She attended Dale Methodist church until its closing. She then became a member of Dorris Heights United Methodist Church in Harrisburg. She loved gardening, quilting, cooking, and attending “The Day of Inspiration.” Mostly, she loved playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Faye Allen is survived by a son, J. David (Linda) Allen of McLeansboro; daughter Janet (Ross) Wheeler of Belvedere; six grandchildren: Melissa (Jared) Pryer of McLeansboro, Jennifer (Devon) DeJournett of Bluford, Emily (Brandon) McEwen of Dahlgren, Meredith (David) Mariottini of San Rafael, CA, Nathan (Martha) Wheeler of West Chicago, and Mark (Elizabeth) Wheeler of Annapolis, MD; 13 great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Adelaide, Elise, Maxwell, Charlotte, Lily, Laney, Hunter, Corbin, Ryker, Larkin, Kinsley, and Addison; and one sister, Nell Harrawood of El Paso, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, four brothers, two sisters, and one great-grandchild.

Visitation for Faye Allen will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday (April 26) at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday (April 27) at the funeral home, with Pastor Jacob Gray officiating. Burial will be in Digby Cemetery in Dale.

Memorials may be made to the McCoy Memorial Library, and they will be accepted at the library or the funeral home.
