81-year-old Geraldine “Gerry” Knight, formerly of Flora, died Monday night, May 13, 2019, at Evergreen Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.
She was born April 27, 1938, in Wayne County, the daughter of Nelson and Cleo (Pennington) Grubb. She was united in marriage to Carl Knight March 9, 1963, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and together they shared 44 years of marriage before his death June 4, 2007.
Gerry operated several businesses in Flora including the Victory Café, Ranch Steakhouse, and Ollie’s Dress Shop, and after moving to Mt. Vernon she managed the Family Dollar stores.
She is survived by her stepson: Dennis Knight of Fairfield; one nephew: Ronald Grubb of Effingham; two nieces: Ronda Bezroukoff of Effingham and Sandra Karalow of Phoenix, Arizona; and a sister-in-law: Mildred Grubb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and 2 brothers: LaVerne (Imogene) Grubb and Bob Grubb.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2019 at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Flora. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to any charity of the donor’s choice and will be accepted through the funeral home.
