John R. Naas – McLeansboro

84-year-old McLeansboro resident John R. Naas died at 6:05 a.m. on Thursday (10-10) at Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He worked in the oilfield and was self-employed. He also served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and was of the Protestant faith.

He was born on May 17, 1935, in Hamilton County to Lawrence Urban Naas and Wilma (Pierce) Naas. He married Donna K. Hart on August 23, 1957, in Corinth, MS. He loved his family and enjoyed taking his sons hunting and fishing. He started working in the oil field at a young age and worked in many states in the U.S. and offshore. He also worked in Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Niger Africa, and Indonesia. He loved to tell his experiences throughout the years.

John Naas is survived by his wife, Donna Naas of McLeansboro; sons Terry (Jeanie) Naas of McLeansboro, Randy (Denise) Naas of Bixby, OK, and Larry (Cindy) Naas of Adair, OK; brother David W. (Rose) Naas of Benson, AZ; eight grandchildren: Chris, Jeremy, Timothy, Andy, Katie (Jacob) Frew, Kelly, Macy, and Isabella; and six great-grandchildren: Deacon and Gabriel Naas, Olivia Frew, Kaylee Naas, Grace Lynn Naas, and Kynzlee Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Private family services for John Naas were held on Saturday at the Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro. Pastor Jacob Gray officiated. Burial was in Brush Harbor Cemetery near McLeansboro. Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro was in charge of arrangements.
