Janis Faye Hopkins – Albion

74-year-old Albion resident, Janis Faye Hopkins passed away at Fairfield Memorial Hospital in to the welcoming arms of Jesus on Tuesday evening, June 2.

Janis was born September 24, 1945 in Edwards County, the daughter of Charles and Edith (Williams) Meserole.  She married Ira “Hoppy” Hopkins on July 3, 1969 in Centralia, Illinois and he survives. Janis was a homemaker, taking great pride in her home. She was a devoted member of the Apostolic Faith Assembly Church in Albion.

Janis is survived by her husband, Hoppy, two sisters, Sharon (Cebert) Wilson of Fairfield and Ruth (Ralph) Tottleben of Carterville; three grandchildren, Alicia Hopkins, Ricky Hopkins II, and Cheyenne Hopkins, one great grandchild, Maycen Hopkins with one great grandchild on the way; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Janis in death were her parents, her son, Ricky Hopkins I, three brothers, Ray, Jack, and Bill Meserole, and five sisters, Dorothy Fitzgerald, Charlene Hellmeyer, Betty Murphy, Phyllis Meserole, and Donna Stevens.

Private Graveside services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9 at Samaria Cemetery northwest of Albion with Bro. Don Vaughan officiating. Memorials in memory of Janis can be directed to the Samaria Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery Fund and will be accepted at Nale’s Funeral Home in Albion who were in charge of the arrangements.
