Harlan Simpson – Fairfield

99-year-old Harlan Simpson of Fairfield, died at 1:05 AM, Monday, October 12 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.  Born on April 21, 1921 in Wayne County, IL to Wallace and Edna B. (Wood) Simpson, he had been a lifelong farmer.  Harlan was also a longtime member of the New Hope Baptist Church, one of the founders of New Hope School, and served on the FS Board.

Harlan is survived by his son Steve (Jackie) Simpson of Plantersville, AL, daughters Marilyn Tyler of Olney, IL and Marsha (John) Scattone of McLeansoboro, IL, 5 grandchildren- Jeff (Jamie) Tyler, Jonathan (Sue) Scattone, Teresa (Scott) Ingram, Gretchen (Dale) Biggerstaff, and Paige (David) Roe, 15 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, and sisters Esther Meeks, Rita (Noel) Vaughan, and Kay Etheridge all of Fairfield.  He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marcella Simpson, brothers Edwin and Harold Simpson, grandson Timothy Tyler, and son in law Andy Tyler.

Funeral services for Harlan Simpson will be held at 2 PM, Thursday, October 15 at the Johnson and Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield, with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 1 PM until the time of service.   The family requests that everyone attending services wear a mask and follow state of Illinois and CDC guidelines for COVID-19.  Memorials in honor of Harlan may be made to Fairfield Memorial Hospital Skilled Care Activities Dept. and will be accepted at the funeral home.
