Robert Edward Baumgart – New Haven

80-year-old Robert Edward Baumgart of New Haven, died on Thursday, January 6 at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana.  He was born on July 11, 1941, the son of Edward and Helen (Durchholz) Baumgart.  He married Janet Hillenbrand on August 10, 1963. She preceded him in death on September 8, 2021. Bob was a lifelong farmer. He served in the Army National Guard. Always faithful, he was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, Indiana, and formerly  worshiped at  St. Polycarp Catholic Church in Carmi.  Bob was active in the Men’s club at both churches.  He was a member of the White County Farm Bureau, Knights of Columbus, and the Illinois Corn Growers Association.  Bob enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and grandchildren and attending their events.

Bob is survived by his children, Jane (Perry) Moon of Tuscumbia, AL, Kathy (Chet) Moon of Tuscumbia, AL, Cindy Baumgart of Norris City, Jeff (Debbie) Baumgart of Cape Girardeau, MO, and Bob (Kristy) Baumgart of Acworth, GA; 16 grandchildren, Elizabeth (Mike) Hester, Alyssa (Collin) Stubblefield, Chelsea Moon, Ali (Tyler) Clark, Josh Baumgart, Maddie (Bill) Baumgart  McFarland, Alaina Baumgart, Terry Baumgart, Jeb Baumgart, Zeke Baumgart, Finlee Hite, Robert Baumgart, Matthew Baumgart, Abby (Justin)  Keach, Kaitlyn Baumgart, and Christopher Baumgart; 3 great-grandchildren, Joshua Hester, Kimberlee Hester, and Lyla Jane Stubblefield; siblings, Ed (Doris) Baumgart of Mt. Vernon, IN, Sherry (Rick) Dile of Evansville, IN, and Delores Maxen of Port St. Lucie, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Janet; his parents; a son, Larry Baumgart and a brother, Gene Baumgart.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 10 at St. Polycarp Catholic Church in Carmi, with burial at Big Prairie Cemetery.  Family and friends may visit from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 9 at Campbell Funeral in Carmi, with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Bob’s memory to the White County Farm Bureau and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, who is in charge of arrangements.
