Mary J. Karcher – Dahlgren

Mary J. Karcher, 88, of Dahlgren, IL passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.

Mary was born February 11, 1934 the daughter of Fred A. Grewe & Elizabeth (Wuebbels) Grewe.  On July 7, 1953 she married Arthur V. Karcher who preceded her in death in 2003.  Mary owned the Aydt Mill in Dahlgren for 35 years and also worked as a Dietary Specialist at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon for 22 years, retiring in 2005.  She was a member and former Sunday School teacher at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Dahlgren, IL.  She was a member of St. Ann’s Altar Sodality and a member of the Senior Circle in Mt. Vernon, IL.  Mary enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading, crossword puzzles, and loved spending time with her friends and family – especially with her grandchildren.

Mary is survived by five children: William A. Karcher of Dahlgren, Raymond A. Karcher & wife Kimberly of Springfield, IL; Gerald P. Karcher of Dahlgren, Melinda Karch & husband Artie of Dahlgren, and Kevin H. Karcher & wife Connie of Evansville, IN; a brother Edward L. Grewe of Mt. Carmel, IL; a sister Elizabeth M. Rapp of Belle Rive, IL; seven grandchildren: Mike (Shannon) Crewes, Noel (Dave) Chiros, Brandon (Ashley) Karcher, Daniel Karcher & wife Audie Perniciaro-Karcher, Aaron Karch, Austin Karcher & fiancé Faith Crowley, and Craig Karcher, 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband Arthur V. Karcher, a brother Joseph Grewe, a sister-in-law Betty Grewe, and a brother-in-law Leo Rapp.

Funeral Mass for Mary J. Karcher will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at the Chapel of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Dahlgren, IL with Father Slawomir Ptak officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 28, 2022 at the Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren, IL with a Recitation of the Rosary Service being held at 7:00 p.m.  Interment will follow the funeral service at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Cemetery in Dahlgren.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Cemetery Fund and will be accepted at the church, or at Gholson Funeral Home.
