Jacqueline (Jackie) Wilma Carter – Burnt Praire

Jacqueline (Jackie) Wilma Carter, 96, of Burnt Prairie went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday morning, March 23, 2022.

Jackie was born on September 2, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan to Paul & Virginia Bennett. She married the love of her life, Charles H. Carter, on April 25, 1944. Together they had one son, Jerry.

Jackie was a devoted wife, mother, and Grandma Jac. She dedicated her days to raising her family and farm life – feeding chickens, milking cows, raising a huge annual garden (along with her roses), and cooking countless meals to take to the fields. She also worked alongside her husband and son in the family business, Charles H Carter & Son. Jackie was a member of the First Christian Church in Fairfield, a big sister for Wayne County Volunteers for Youth, an election judge for many years, a proud member of the Prairie Chick Red Hatters, and always active in her community.

She is survived by her only child, Jerry Carter; grandchildren, Jill (Brandon) Carter of Evansville, Jeremy (Nikki) Carter of Fairfield, and Jodi (Jared) Poole of Burnt Prairie; and great-grandchildren, Cade and Liv Carter, and McKenna, Kinley, and Carter Poole.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, infant son, and daughter-in-law Frances.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am Tuesday, March 29 at Johnson & Vaughn Funeral Home in Fairfield with burial following at Maple Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 Monday evening at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wayne County Humane Society or to the FCC Foundation Fran Carter Memorial Scholarship.
