Charles E. Dalton – Fairfield

86 year old Fairfield resident Charles E. Dalton, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2022 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.

Charlie was born on April 18, 1936 to Jesse and Grace (Riley) Dalton in Crittenden Co., KY. He married Shirley Wiles on November 27, 1955 in Albion, IL and she survives.

Charlie had worked at Airtex Products both in the plant and later as a Foreman.  Later Charlie went to work for the City of Fairfield where he was a mechanic at the city garage.  Following his retirement from the City of Fairfield, Charlie always stayed busy, he went to work at Center Street School and Fairfield High School, both as a janitor and bus driver. He worked a short time for Nale’s Funeral Home assisting with funerals and did maintenance for the automobiles and yard. He later worked at LeMond Chevrolet where he went after and delivered cars.

Charlie was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as a Deacon for several years, he was Chairman of the Bus Committee, where he spent many hours maintaining the buses and driving the bus for pickups and various trips.  Charlie loved his church, he was always there to lend a helping hand.

Survivors include his wife Shirley Dalton of Fairfield, IL, 2 Daughters; DeLana Fleenor of Evansville, IN and Sharon Fenton of Fairfield, IL 3 Grandchildren; Nathan (Betsy) Fleenor, Kelby (Jesse) Fenton and Zack (Rachel) Fleenor. 5 Great-Grandchildren; J.T., Emma, Claire, Luke & Owen.  Along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, 4 brothers; Orville, Gus, JR, Jim. 2 sisters; Frances and Mildred.

Visitation for Charles E. Dalton will be held Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. With funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022 at Nale’s Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church and be accepted at Nale’s Funeral Home.
