Fairfield FFA member Jacob Britt was awarded the National FFA Organization’s highest honor, the prestigious American FFA Degree, during the 95th National FFA Convention on October 29, 2022, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Less than one percent of the 850,823 FFA members in the country ever earns this distinction. Recipients of the honor are reserved for those students who have earned at least $10,000 and productively invested $7500 through Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs (SAEs), met all requirements of a twenty-page degree application, and completed an interview with a state recommendation committee.  Jacob is currently majoring in accounting at University of Southern Indiana and he is the 15th Fairfield FFA member to receive the FFA degree.

95th National FFA Convention

From October 26 – 29, Edwards County FFA members participated in the 95th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. Members who attended are as follows: Emma Glover, JW Simms Reisner, Jacob Weber, Sally Pinkstaff, Natalie Shelby, Brooklyn Metcalf, Heidi Beadles, Jake Wiseman, Trenton Jefferson, Aly Williams, Campbell Biggs, Laney Stephens, and Kassidi Metcalf. Thanks to some careful planning from the advisors, these members were able to do tons of fun activities including visiting the National FFA Expo & Shopping Mall, touring Ed Carpenter Racing, attending sessions, a Cinch World’s Toughest Rodeo, and a concert by Jimmie Allen and Lauren Alaina.

The awards received during the convention this year were far beyond expectations! First, Laney Stephens came all the way from Oklahoma State University to receive her American FFA Degree, the highest honor an FFA member can receive. The Edwards County Chapter received recognition as a 3-Star Chapter this year too!

The highlight of the convention this year was Edwards County being top 10 in the nation for the National Chapter Award for Strengthening Agriculture. This is the second time this has ever happened for the Edwards County FFA Chapter. Last year, the chapter held the Farmer’s Share Breakfast event in conjunction with the Edwards County Farm Bureau to bring awareness of the amount of the food dollar the farmer receives. National FFA recognized our event, and we were chosen as top 10 in the nation. To compete for the number one spot, Kassidi Metcalf & Caleb Stevens worked together to record a presentation to send to Nationals which was judged with the other finalists. Being named in the top 10 in the nation is a huge accomplishment and something everyone is very proud of. We hope to do it again with another one of our events that can change an industry for the better.
