Virginia McKitrick – Sims

Virginia Lee McKitrick, 97, of Sims, IL passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022 at Aperion Care in Fairfield, IL.

Virginia was born in Sims, IL on March 11, 1925 the daughter of Willard & Alma Barr.  On November 14, 1942 she married Auburn Frank McKitrick, who preceded her in death.  Virginia was a homemaker and farmer.  She was a member of the Eastern Star in Wayne City for over 50 years and a member of the Monday Evening Women’s Club for over 50 years.  She was a member of the Wayne City Baptist Church for over 60 years.

She enjoyed raising pigs on the family farm, reading books, fishing, quilting, cross-stitch, and sewing.  She enjoyed cooking, and often baked pumpkin pie and angel food cake.  At Christmas time she would make pecan pie.  She loved spending time with her friends and family, especially with her granddaughters and her great-granddaughter, Danielle Alexandria Harpenau, who was the apple of her eye.

Virginia is survived by 2 granddaughters: Heather Wilson of Oreana, IL and Heidi (Anthony) Harpenau of Clinton, IL; her great-granddaughter Danielle Alexandria Harpenau, a son-in-law Randy Wilson of Argenta, IL; a cousin Byron (Inez) Barr of Rinard, IL; a nephew Mark Martin of Gurney, IL and several other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both parents Willard & Alma Barr, her husband Auburn Frank McKitrick, a daughter Brenda Sue Wilson, a brother William Harold Barr, and an infant great-granddaughter.

Funeral services for Virginia Lee McKitrick will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, December 5, 2022 at the Wayne City Baptist Church in Wayne City, IL with Pastor Jay Loucks officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City.  Interment will follow the funeral services at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Wayne City Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society, and will be accepted at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City.  Online condolences, memories, and words of encouragement may be shared at www.youngfuneralhomellc.com
