Max D. Balding – Olney

Max D. Balding, 86, of Olney, passed away January 1, 2023 at Carle RMH, in Olney. Max was born December 27, 1936 in West Salem, IL to Medford Harold and Vernice Genelle (Knust) Balding. He married Velda (Pittman) on December 31, 1958 at the First United Methodist Church in Olney. Velda (Pittman) preceded him in death on March 6, 2020.

After High School, Max enlisted into the US Navy as a photographer and served on the USS Roosevelt from 1956-60. During his service he married, Velda, they were blessed with 5 children.

He returned to Olney to work at Dale’s Printing and then opened his own printing business, The Olde Print Shoppe, in 1978. Max was active in the Elks, the American Legion, the VFW, the Eagles, and coached Little League baseball.

He enjoyed pursuing new interests like learning the guitar and taking welding and Spanish classes at the college. He liked motorcycle riding, bowling, watching The Three Stooges and visiting with his grandkids and great grandkids. Max D. Balding is survived by daughter, Gloria Schnell and husband, Curtis, Olney; son, Gregory Max Balding, Olney; daughter, Peggy L. Runyon and husband, Jeffrey, Noble; son, Perry Balding and wife, Donna, Olney; son, Gerald Balding and wife, Danielle, Olney; grandchildren, Ryan (Kelsey) Runyon, Rachel (Neil) Lortie, Austin (Brandi) Runyon, Brooke (Ben) Russell, Darbye (Thomas) Sullivan, Lila Balding, Max Medford Balding, Gwendolyn, Olivia and Addison Balding; great grandchildren, Case, Kolten, Oliver, Lionel, Cyrus, Winifred, Marigold, and Phoebe; brothers, Ben (Regina) Balding, Gale (Sherry) Balding, Danny (Mollie) Balding, and John (Stella) Balding; and several nieces and nephews. . He was preceded in death by his parents, Medford and Vernice; wife, Velda; brother, Loy Balding; and granddaughter, Abigayle Laurel Balding.

A visitation will be held on January 5, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on January 6, 2023 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney. Burial will take place following services at Moravian Cemetery. Full Military Rites will be performed at the Graveside Memorials can be made to Richland County Hope.
