Illinois State Police Troop 9 Commander, Captain Nathan Douglas, announced that the State
Police will conduct Nighttime Enforcement or NITE patrols in Effingham and Wayne County
during February. NITE patrols allow the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking
enforcement action in response to impaired driving and occupant restraint violations
especially between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 am. The number of unrestrained drivers
killed in traffic crashes is significantly higher at nighttime and combined with impaired driving
means even more traffic deaths during these critical hours. Officers will strictly enforce
violations including, Driving Under the Influence; Safety Belt and Child Restraint use;
Speeding; Distracted Driving; and, All Illinois Vehicle Code and Criminal Violations. Alcohol
and drug impairment are factors in more than 30% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois.
Over half of all fatal crashes in Illinois occur at night. The NITE program allows officers to
work even harder at removing dangerous impaired drivers from the road and making sure
everyone is buckled up. This project is funded through the Illinois Department of
Transportation.

ban. ISP and the Sheriff’s Association reminds folks that it nor any other law enforcement
agency solicits donations over the phone, but only by mail.

for reproductive health care in Illinois. The measure protects health care providers and their

overturn Roe v. Wade last year. More than 10-thousand patients come to Illinois each year
to get an abortion.

Governor Pritzker is in Davos, Switzerland this week to speak at the World Economic Forum
Annual Meeting. The governor will be promoting Illinois’ achievements on the world stage.
