The Illinois Supreme Court is considering a challenge to the state’s assault weapons ban. The state’s high court heard arguments yesterday as part of a lawsuit filed against the ban. The plaintiffs argue the measure violates both the state and federally protected rights to bear arms. State lawmakers passed the sweeping gun restrictions in January in response to last year’s deadly mass shooting at Highland Park’s July 4th parade.
