ISP Announces Special Patrols for June In the Area

Illinois State Police have announced regional specialized patrols for the month of June.

ISP says they will be conducting OREP or Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols in Richland and Marion Counties. Illinois law requires all passengers to be bucked up in front and in the back.

Officers will be conducting NITE Patrols or Nighttime Enforcement Patrols in Hamilton and Marion Counties. NITE Patrols allow troopers to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to impaired driving and occupant restraint violations between 6 PM and 6 AM. Officers during NITE Patrols look for speeding, DUI, seatbelt and child restraint use, distracted driving, and all Illinois vehicle code and criminal violations.

Finally, ISP Says they will be conducting Distracted Driving Enforcement in Wayne County for the month of June. Officers will be on the lookout for those violating Illinois Distracted driving laws, including the reading, sending, or receiving texts or browsing the internet while driving, drivers using their handheld electronic communications devices, and the use of a cell phone to take photos or video within 500 feet of an emergency scene. Also, the law prohibits drivers under the age of 19 from using a cell phone, even hands-free and all drivers are prohibited from using any cell phone while in a school zone or work zone. Finally, school bus drivers are not allowed to use a cell phone, even hands-free.
