Area Memorial Services for Memorial Day

Fairfield’s Memorial Day service is set for this Monday, Memorial Day at 11 a.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery. The guest speaker will be Dale Bartley who served in the US Army. During his time in service Sergeant Bartley served overseas in Okinawa, Thailand, Korea, Panama in South America, and Honduras. He received several service medals and retired in 1993 with the rank of Sergeant First Class. Dave Land will serve as Emcee. The invocation and benediction will be given by Robert Harrelson. Elizabeth Gonzalez will sing the national anthem and lead those attending with the Pledge of Allegiance. The Commander of VFW Post 4535, Ron Johnson, and the Commander of American Legion Post 176, Tom Seaman, will lay a wreath on the grave of the unknown service person, followed by a 21-gun salute by the Honor Guard and the playing of taps by Doug Aman. Memorial Day, which falls on the last Monday in May, honors the men and women who died while serving in the military. Meanwhile, officials in Hamilton County have also released information on their memorial day service.

Their service will also be at 11 AM on Monday and will be hosted by American Legion post 106 on the Hamilton County Courthouse lawn.

The Edwards County Memorial Post #8222 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct memorial services in the West Salem area to honor our nation’s veterans on Sunday, May 28th. The Post will visit nine local cemeteries as well as conducting a service at the Veterans Memorial on the square in West Salem. The first ceremony will begin at 8:00 AM at the Veterans Memorial. The schedule for the nine cemeteries is as follows: Shiloh at 8:30 AM, Ebenezer at 8:40 AM, Macedonia at 9:00 AM, Little Wabash at 9:15 AM, Marion at 9:30 AM, Parkersburg Oak Hill at 10:00 AM, Walnut Grove at 10:15 AM, Zion United Methodist at 11:00 AM, and the Moravian at 11:15 AM. The Post will visit twelve local cemeteries as well as conducting a public program on the Edwards County Courthouse Square in Albion. The schedule for the twelve cemeteries is as follows: Birk at 7:00 AM, Mt Zion at 7:15 AM, Wanborough at 7:30 AM, Little Prairie at 7:45 AM, Samaria Baptist at 8:00 AM, Pleasant Hill at 8:15 AM, West Village at 8:30 AM, Bone Gap at 8:45 AM, Union at 9:00 AM, Browns at 9:15 AM, Graceland at 9:30 AM, Old Albion at 9:45 AM.
