Local Sports Recap from 9/12/23

The Cisne Runnin’ Lions Volleyball Team fell to Woodlawn in 3 sets Tuesday Evening. Set scores were 21-25, 25-20, 24-26. Cisne took the JV matchup 25-13, 26-24.

Wayne City Volleyball was victorious over Sandoval Tuesday Evening. Varsity scores were 25-13, 25-6.

In other volleyball from Southern Illinois, DuQuoin defeated Benon 25-16, 25-18. Hamilton County downed Eldorado 25-5, 25-8. NCOE defeated Marion 25-12, 23-25, 25-13. Salem defeated Richland County 25-13, 15-25, 25-17.

In Boys Soccer, Carbondale over Centralia 6-1, Murphysboro over Harrisburg 6-0.

The Mount Vernon Cross County Invitational Took Place Tuesday Afternoon. On the boys side, Mount Vernon finished first followed by Webber, and Salem. Centralia did not have enough runners for a team score. On the girsl side, Centralia was first wolloed by Mount Vernon, Marion, and Salem.

In a Boys Golf Tri-Meet, Hamilton County defeated Eldorado and Hardin County. Abe Neal shot a 37 and was medalist for the match. In a 4-team match, Murphysboro was first followed by Gallatin County, Harrisburg, and Vienna. Graywon Wilson for Gallatin County was medalist in that match with a 38.

In a Girls Golf Tri-Meet, Harrisburg defeated Goreville and Benton. Hamilton County defeated Eldorado as the Eagles didn’t have enough golfers for a team score. Alle Ragan for Hamilton County was the metalist with a 45.

Fairfield Lady Mules Volleyball remains the top team in the latest Deep South Coaches Poll. The Lady Mules took third in the silver division of the Crossroads Classic over the weekend and are currently 16-2 on the season. Over the weekend, Coach Chet Snyder earned his 500th win. The Mules garnered 15 of the 17 first place votes. NCOE was 2nd and Nashville was 3rd. NCOE and Nashville each had a first place vote in the poll. Carmi-White County was 4th followed by Pinkneyville, Hamilton County, Murphysboro, Massac County, Carterville, and DuQuoin. Centralia, Edwards County, Chester, and Trico also received votes in the poll.
