Albion City Council Recap from 10/2/23

The Albion City council voted Monday night to let out for bids the next phase of the pinch water line. The estimate for the project is $432,000. There was some discussion on the Brent Speir Water line. However, no action taken other than a tie vote with Mayor Harris voting no to continue the project until more funding information becomes available.

For visitors on business, there was a request from concerned residents of West Elm Street in Albion to place a stop sign on Elm Street at the intersections of sixth in Elm Street and westbound at Seventh and Elm Street. The city will discuss the added stop signs at next month’s regular meeting.

City Hall has been closed all day Monday and again on Tuesday due to all the city office workers becoming ill. This has caused a problem as no bills were authorized to be paid Monday night or any monthly reports. It is hoped that at least some of the city workers will be able to return to City Hall on Wednesday.

A stop sign in an alleyway between 4th and 5th Street was approved by the council, the Christmas parade permit was approved for December 9th from 5:30 to 6:30 P.M.

A work update on the Elm Street road project has the completion about three weeks away when the asphalt payment will be installed.

The council voted to purchase a new sewer pump for their lift station behind Albion tire east of Albion. The cost of that pump $10,765.

The water tanks on East Cherry Street will be cleaned and repainted. The cost will be $65,247.50. Echowash from Olney will be completing that work.

The council voted to install new stop signs at the intersection of third and main street again for the east and west bound traffic.

The council then went into executive session to interview candidates for a secretarial position. A candidate was hired. However, the name will not be released by city officials until they, the employee notifies their employer.
