Southern Illinois University Receives Backlash From Conservative Lawyer Over Scholarship Program

A conservative Cornell law professor is calling out Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and a scholarship for being what he believes to be racist against white and straight people. William Jacobson told the Illinois Times, that he has filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights over the Tracey Meares scholarship. The school scholarship gives students with backgrounds underrepresented in medicine a thousand dollars in their fourth year. The SIU scholarship was created in 2022, and is available to non-white and Asian students along with anyone in the LGBTQ+ community. The complaint is one of many filed in similar circumstances across the country with groups like, The Legal Insurrection Foundation launching attacks on diversity initiatives.
