A state lawmaker is trying to legalize magic mushrooms for medical purposes. Democratic Senator Rachel Ventura introduced a bill so psilocybin can be used to treat Illinoisans suffering from PTSD, depression or substance use. A Chicago therapist who was at a news conference last week to announce the bill said his daughter would be alive today if she was prescribed magic mushrooms. The therapist says she suffered from mental illness and took her own life five years ago.
