Pritzker Administration Criticized Over Response to COVID-19 Outbreak at Veterans Home

Although an Auditor General’s report on the COVID-19 outbreak that killed 36 patients at the Lasalle Veterans Home was released two years ago, lawmakers had a chance to question state officials yesterday. The audit had found the state failed to respond to the seriousness of the outbreak. One Republican lawmaker said state public health officials did not visit the facility until a week and a half after the outbreak began. State veterans affairs officials told the Legislative Audit Committee yesterday, every veterans home in Illinois is now properly equipped to deal with such outbreaks.
