On July 5th the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office conducted “Operation 96-6” This offender roundup was conducted in honor of Deputy Sean Riley.

“Operation 96-6” is the result of investigations conducted by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office into the distribution and possession of illegal drugs in Wayne County. Warrants for numerous individuals were obtained with the assistance of the Wayne County States Attorney’s Office. As a result, 12 suspects have been arrested and many being charged with new charges discovered during their arrest. Additional arrests are anticipated.

41-year-old Dustin R. Pike was arrested on a warrant for Possession of Controlled Substance. Pike received a new charge of Possession of  Controlled Substance.

25-year-old Brittany N. Bednar was arrested on a warrant for Delivery Controlled Substance.

21-year-old Autumn R. White was arrested on a warrant for Possession of Controlled Substance.

28-year-old Kyle P. Altizer was picked up on a warrant for Delivery of Methamphetamine and received a new charge of Possession of Methamphetamine.

33-year-old Allison G. Altizer was arrested on a warrant for Delivery of Methamphetamine and was charged with a new charge of Possession of Methamphetamine.

49-year-old Thomas W. Cramer was arrested on a warrant for Delivery of Methamphetamine.

44-year-old Tracy L. Cornwell was arrested on a warrant for Delivery of Methamphetamine with new additional charge of Possession of Methamphetamine.

44-year-old Michael T. Thomason on a warrant for Delivery of Methamphetamine. Thomason received new charges for  Possession of Meth, and Resisting/ Obstructing.

36-year-old Renea M. Henson received a new charge of Possession of Methamphetamine.

66-year-old Michael G. Deffendall was picked up on a warrant on Possession with intent Methamphetamine, receiving a new charge of Possession with intent Methamphetamine.

30-year-old Zachary S. Henson received a new charge of Possession of Methamphetamine

Arrested seperately on a warrant for Possession of Methamphetamine was 41-year-old Amanda Stanley. Stanley was arrested on July 9th by the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.

In West Salem a boil order has been issued for water customers on E. North St from N. Main St to Union St and on Union St from E. North St to School St.

The registration date for North Wayne Community Unit School District 200 has been released.  The North Wayne District will have registration on Thursday August 4th from 2-6 pm at each of their four schools.  If you have questions about registration, you can call your school office or the district office.  The numbers are Mt. The 2022 New Wayne County Agricultural Fair in Fairfield continues through Saturday, July 16th. Today at 8 a.m. will be the 4-H Bucket Calf and Beef Show, the Jr. Beef Show starts at 8:15. At 1 p.m. is the Jr 4-H Sheep Show, with the 4-H Sheep Show to begin at 4 p.m. at the sheep barn. At 5 p.m. is the 4-H & Jr. Goat Show. The Main Event of the Night will be Local Truck/Tractor Pull sponsored by TrustBank. The Pull starts at 7p.m. Wednesday’s Main Event will be Pig Penning.

Land of Lincoln Honor Flight has announced that Mission #61 takes flight on Tuesday, July 19, 2022.  96 Veterans will be on board this flight from Abraham Lincoln Capitol Airport to Washington, DC. One World War II, four Korean War and 91 Vietnam War Era Veterans, all ready to experience their national memorials with their comrades. These veterans represent all branches of military service: 16 Air Force, 56 Army, 4 Marine and 20 Navy veterans. The Veterans travel to Ronald Reagan National Airport on a chartered Sun Country 737.  Upon arrival, they will board luxury motorcoaches and tour the World War II, Korean and Vietnam War memorials, as well as Arlington National Cemetery Tomb of the Unknowns. Other stops include the Lincoln Memorial, the National Air & Space Museum (Chantilly, Virginia), the US Marine Corps Memorial, and the US Air Force Memorial. Land of Lincoln Honor Flight is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that receives no government funding. It is only able to honor Veterans due to the generous donations, sponsorships, fundraising events, merchandise sales and supporting efforts of the many local businesses, individuals and organizations within our service area. Land of Lincoln Honor Flight is operated by all volunteers; it has no paid staff, no office and no utilities costs.  Their on-going administrative cost is approximately 1% so virtually every dollar raised supports flight costs for our Veterans. Veteran applications continue to be accepted with flight priority given in the following order:  World War II (enlisted by 12/31/1946), then Korean War Era (01/01/1947 to 12/31/1957), followed by the Vietnam War Era (01/01/1958 to 05/07/1975). Since the inception in 2009, Land of Lincoln Honor Flight has now served 4,730 veterans on 61 flights. Additional 2022 flights are planned for July 19, August 30, September 27 and November 1.

The condition of Illinois crops improved over the past week. According to Statistician Mark Schleusener, the rain was welcome in many fields and gave crops a little boost. 15 percent of corn is silking, and 66 percent of the crop is rated in good to excellent condition. 92 percent of winter wheat has been harvested and average statewide topsoil moisture is now rated as nine percent very short, 22 percent short, 59 percent adequate and 10 percent surplus. 29 percent of soybeans are blooming, and two percent are setting pods. Schleusener says 63 percent of the crop is rated in good to excellent condition, which is better than the previous week.

A new state law aims to grow the microchip industry in Illinois. The Micro Act includes tax incentives for microchip manufacturers setting up shop in Illinois. It was sponsored by Senator Suzy  Glowiak Hilton of Western Springs. Glowiak Hilton says microchip production has gone down in the U.S. over the last two decades, and Asia is now the leading manufacturer of the chips.

River stages as of this morning:  the Little Wabash east of Fairfield stands at 18.33 feet, above the 17 ft. flood stage. Meanwhile, the Skillet Fork at Wayne City has a reading of 5.74 feet (flood stage is 15 ft.). The Little Wabash below Clay City is at 18.49 feet (flood stage is 18 ft.). Bonpas Creek at Browns reads 1.84 feet, and the Little Wabash at Main Street in Carmi reads 10.65 feet. The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel sits at 7.57 feet.
